Start-up and Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship and start-up companies are increasingly flourishing in Switzerland and are an important asset for business location Switzerland. TRIPLEYE moderated a panel discussion with two successful start-ups and state representatives at the annual event of a global trade promotion organization.

Teaching students during their study abroad semester. A major US-Research University operates a foreign study Center in Switzerland. Every year a select group of students get to spend a good four months at the Center. TRIPLEYE was asked to teach a course, support the students in their field projects and take the students on a field trip visiting various international organizations (incl. CERN) and universities.

CleanTech Development - Visibility. The Swiss Government has launched an ambitious Energy Plan 2050. Renewable energies, energy conservation and development in the CleanTech sector play a very important role. TRIPLEYE was mandated to elaborate a plan including specific measures on how to showcase the latest results and technologies in CleanTech to opinion leaders, decision makers and a broader public in Switzerland and abroad.

Trade Promotion - Academy Workshop. Switzerland is globally recognized for its strength in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). Whether attracting foreign companies to Switzerland or being able to successfully compete on the global market, Swiss trade promotion officers need to be keenly familiar with STI. TRIPLEYE was invited to present the dynamic field in an Academy workshop and provide a guideline how to successfully navigate the rather complex Swiss landscape.

Change Communication and Management. Jointly with a German colleague, TRIPLEYE taught a course on Change Communication and Management at a University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.

International Strategy. TRIPLEYE was invited to contribute and comment the draft of a strategic report of a major Swiss Research University regarding its international policies, outreach and operations.

International Conference on “Neuroscience of Cognition, Computation and Decisions“. TRIPLEYE is responsible for the organization of the first international conference on “Neuroscience of Cognition, Computation and Decisions“, NCCD on behalf of Virginia Tech at its international Study Center in Ticino, Switzerland. A select group of 25 scientists from Europe and the US will exchange and discuss their latest research findings in a 2-day conference.

Technology Day at NTB. The President of TRIPLEYE was invited to give the key note speech at this year’s “Technology Day” of the University of Applied Sciences, NTB in Buchs, Switzerland. The title: „Wettbewerb kennt keine Grenzen – Die NTB als Leuchtturm im Alpenrhein“

USI - Field Project 2013. The Ticino Chapter of the Swiss American Chamber of Commerce supports each year a Field Project of a group of students of the Universita della Svizzera Italiana, USI under the tutorship of Prof. Colombo. This year, five students study the Swiss Financial Industry and its international reputation, trust and legitimacy. The President of TRIPLEYE, being the Vice-Chairman of the Chapter, is assisting the group as an external advisor.

The President of TRIPLEYE was invited to join the Advisory Board of Career Opportunities International, C.O.I. a globally operating head hunting company based in the USA. TRIPLEYE and C.O.I. will benefit from each other’s extensive international networks and visibility.

“e-REAL“ market launch in the USA. TRIPLEYE introduced “Enhanced Reality Application Labs – e-REAL“ of Logos Knowledge Network to potential clients in the US along the East Coast The unique and novel approach of e-REAL using highly immersive learning techniques was met with great interest and resulted in some promising leads for setting-up the first Labs.

Strategic Plan of a major Technical University in the USA. One of the largest and highly reputated Engineering School in the United States embarked on a project to develop a comprehensive, strategic vision for its campus until 2018. After having contributed to the elaboration of the report with a white paper concering the development of international relations and global recognition, TRIPLEYE was asked to write a critique of the final draft report serving as a complement for the discussion in the University Board.

"Global Village 2012 at Lehigh University, PA". The Iacocca Institute of Lehigh University is organizing once a year a program for Future Leaders of Business and Industry and invites facilitators from across the globe to give lectures and classes which helps to prepare the participants to tackle the challenges of a globally operating business executive. TRIPLEYE was invited to join the prestigious circle of facilitators.

"e-REAL". As Information Technologies evolve, so do the possibilities for more immersive learning and teaching techniques. "Enhanced Reality Labs" called e-REAL of LKN (Logos Knowledge Network: www.logosnet.org) are using cutting edge technologies to create a virtual and physical environment in a room, which immerses the students in real life situations (e.g. heart transplant) with possibilities to interact simultaneously with peers, tutors, patients as well as to consult literature, records and other written info, all without experiencing the negative impact of wrong decision-making. The process of "learning by doing" leaves the student with a profound and memorable experience. TRIPLEYE is a partner of LKN in taking e-REAL to the market in the USA, Europe, the middle East and elsewhere.

"Seventh metrobasel Forum". ETH-Studio Basel is presenting proposals of landmark projects for urban development of the Greater Basel Area in the presence of more than 400 guests. TRIPLEYE is joining a round table discussion as an external expert debating the need of a second Campus outside of the city for the fast growing University of Basel and locating it at the old Rhine port in Birsfelden as possible site (see metrobasel report 2011 - http://www.metrobasel.ch/index.php/en/publications-en).

"Virginia Tech Strategic Plan 2012 - 2018". Virginia Tech, VT, is a prominent research university in the United States and is currently preparing its next 7 year development plan. It just completed a 1 billion dollar fundraising campaign one year ahead of schedule. It also operates a Study Center for 60 students in Riva San Vitale, Ticino, Switzerland. The President of VT asked TRIPLEYE to prepare a White Paper regarding the future development of VT's international relations and co-operations with a particular focus on Europe.

"Regional University Co-operations – Challenges and Opportunities". The Mercator Foundation of Germany organizes in October, 2011 an international conference on regional university co-operations. All participants of the 3-day conference will receive a Reader with 40 examples of regional co-operations in Germany, Europe, America, Asia and Africa. TRIPLEYE was mandated to research the examples and preface them with a comprehensive discussion.

 

June 2011

"Industry Location Alpine Rhine in a Global Context - Challenges and Opportunities". The Free Democratic Party, FDP of St. Gallen, Switzerland together with three regional employer organizations invited to a public forum in Buchs, Switzerland on June 30, 2011 to discuss issues regarding the economic development of this cross-border area of Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Liechtenstein with strong metropolitan areas in the West (Zurich) and in the North (Bavaria/Baden-Württemberg). Dr. Christoph von Arb was invited to give the key note and provide insights from a global perspective. The President of the Board of the Federal Institutes of Technology, Dr. Fritz Schiesser, laid out the strategy of the ETH Domain and representatives of local companies presented their perspectives. The trigger for the event is a plan to establish an Innovation Center in Buchs, which should significantly strengthen the technology base and brain pool of the area.

"Round Table Talk for Members of Swiss Parliament". metrobasel regularly organizes round table talks with members of Swiss Parliament, key representatives of Cantonal authorities as well Swiss industry. On the agenda are critical issues impacting the overall development of the metropolitan area. The first Round Table of 2011 took place in Aarau end of March. The participants discussed the future development of Swiss universities in relation to the redrafting of key laws governing them. The study "Universities in Switzerland: With Incentive Driven Structural Reforms into the Global Top League " elaborated by TRIPLEYE was presented and served as basis of the discussions of the round table (the study in German can be downloaded from this site. "Start-up and International Markets: Access and Instruments". The Centro Promozione Start-up in Lugano (www.cpstartup.ch) supported by the Università della svizzera italiana, USI, the Politecnico di Milano and INTERREG - a cross-border collaboration program of the EU - organized a workshop and invited the President of TRIPLEYE to provide the key note and talk about the swissnex program (www.swissnex.org) of the Federal government especially the initial pilot project in Boston and present TRIPLEYE as an effective door opener and facilitator for international business development.

"Universities in Switzerland: With Incentive Driven Structural Reforms into the Global Top League ". Key Federal Laws regarding the operation and funding of Swiss Universities are currently redrafted and will considerably change the framework condition under which these institutions operate. metrobasel (www.metrobasel.org) has a keen interest in seeing the changes strengthen the global competitiveness of the universities as well as the vitality and economic strength of the metropolitan area at large. TRIPLEYE was mandated to elaborate a report about the critical impact of the pending legislation and present incentive based proposals to increase excellency and global competitiveness using 7 key measures discussed during the metrobasel Forum in November 2010.

German Excellency Initiative. In the framework of a recently signed agreement with a prominent German Research University, TRIPLEYE will assist the university in drafting a concept for the comprehensive, long-term development of the university. A request for the allocation of the needed funds will be submitted in the next round of the German Excellency Initiative during the latter part of the year.

Funding of Research Universities - An International Benchmark Study. The three metropolitan areas Basel, Zurich and Geneva/Lausanne are responsible for ca. 85% of Switzerland's GDP. On behalf of Metrobasel (www.metrobasel.org), TRIPLEYE will undertake a detailed analysis of the funding mechanisms of a number of top-rated public universities in USA, Europe and Asia and compare them with leading research universities in Switzerland. The results and recommendations serve the stakeholders in government, academia and industry to define new rules and procedures which will enable the leaders of the Swiss universities to fully exploit their potential as providers of knowledge and talent for these clusters in an ever fiercer global competition.
